About Anderson Island and How We Came to Live Here

clw0008.JPG

Anderson Island has a long and rich history of which I am happy to be part of for the past 8 years.

I moved to Anderson Island on December 1, 2000, from Lakewood. I stumbled across the ferry dock one day while riding my bicycle. I took a look at the ferry schedule and decided to go for a ride on the ferry and ride my bike around the island. Wow! I was in Heaven.

Weeks later, I had a client come to my office and apply for a home loan….and guess what? He was buying a home on Anderson Island. I could not believe the price of the home he was purchasing and the thought of living on an island intrigued me enough to go looking for a home.

Long story, short…I purchased a home and later sold it after Eric and I met and now we have a home on 5 acres along with all our animals….72 chickens, 5 turkeys, 3 cats and 3 dogs and a Parrot. Life is good.

We also moved here in 2000 from Lakewood. My husband, Johnny, had lived in the Tacoma/Lakewood area for the better part of 30 years when I moved here in 1998 but had no idea that ferry he saw out on the Sound went to an island where folks lived. He had always assumed it was a McNeil ferry. One day surfing the internet I asked him where Anderson Island was and he didn’t know- so I looked it up. The next weekend (early May) we came over and rode around. A week or so later I talked to an agent who showed us some houses for sale- and maybe a month or so later (mid-June) we moved here. Similar story to yours Cheryl- I think when you come over here you just know if this is the place for you.
    thanks for the link :)

I came to Anderson on the urging of my dear friend Judy. She was enchanted, and after I arrived so was I. In 2006 I teamed up with her & another friend & we found our vacation home-buying from a long time Islander, Bill. He’d met a lovely lady “on Island”- Patricia- and they were moving to another Island -Hawaii- and we loved her home so much we bought it as a rental. Our good fortune was that our first tenants eventually became Island “locals” too,( They also bought recently). Now the rental on Country Club is vacant and needs a good spirit to live there. Send me a note if you know someone needing one-level carpet-free living ( no mildew!). The enchantment of the Island is not to be missed ~ I know Judy & I both have talked about making the move there some day.

My sis-in-law and her hubby saw the beauty in this island years ago. We began bringing our family over to celebrate holidays with them, then we began to come on our own and rent from Barb who has been our connection for years. Now, we have floor plans on the wall with the dream house that we will build some day on the island and give our kids and grandkids a place to come - we love the island and everything it brings to us as a family. We have many many memories, and thank you to the homeowners who have beautiful rentals - we’ve counted on you! We even have a family golf tourney that we do each year (3 so far) and so tradition is beginning on the island for us.

    Laura,
Let me know where your place is. My hubby is going to go ahead and apply for a transfer to Auburn, and we would need to commute 3 days a week, so we’re going forward with our plans to rent something for about a year, and then buy. What’s your place all about? Let me know ok. My email is inlandnwtrading@gmail.com. I have pictures of our place in Spokane if you would like to see what kind of renters we are. We have a friend living with us for the year from Alaska who has a very well-mannered kitty (11 years old) and we have our yellow lab who is wonderful house pet -no mis-behavin!
